PRIDE........
LET'S TALK ABOUT PRIDE AND
HOW TO NAVIGATE SEASONS AS A YOUNG PERSON
Have you ever really thought of how pride creeped into the heart of lucifer who is now referred to as "Satan", when the bible said he was once an angel, who was even gifted with amazing musical gifts and he was just so blessed and loved by God.
I don't know about you but the way angels were described in the bible, they are beautiful beings, with faces that bim with bright light, majestic in nature and in Gen Z language they are just so awesome and cool :)
The other day i was listening to a sermon by Pastor Stephanie Ike, of the porter's house church in LA,
as she expanxiated on pride this thoughts came to my mind, if an angel could be inflicted with pride which led to the biggest fall of all time that produced so much darkeness, danger and just everything horrible,
what about us, what about "me", what could pride do to me?
I think this self reflective question is one we all need to ask ourselves from time to time, if possible make it a daily routine, when the bible said in James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
It makes me want to become the humble, why? because i want the grace that God specially gives, it feels like a beautiful gift don't you think.
Thinking about pride and just everything that comes with it, i realised that God cares more about our character more than the things we do, or how productive or important we think we are or even how others think of us. From a very young age i remember God visiting me with this revelation when i struggled with doing my school work more than showing up for weekly church meetings or be busy doing things in God's house.
I want to be humble enough to see it as a privilige to serve others and serve in the house of God and not somethng that feels like a chore, or am being forced to by guilt, or someone else or out of duty etc.
Do you know when pride steps into our hearts?
Let's look at some very basic reasons that we sometimes belittle but it could just be what is keeping you trapped. Pride comes in the moment you start thinking that your strength has been all you've used to do the things you needed to, when you think your better than everyone else, your the most important in the room and the biggest one, you think something can't be done without you, hahaha this one is sometimes funny to me, cos i've seen so many people fall with this thinking, and then the one no one thinks of as pride is you--self sabotaging you, being timid and thinking your not good for anything is also pride friend.
Darling, God's work will always be done, wether you obey him to do it or not, he is going to raise someone else to do it with the right heart too, this boastful nature especially in the church community, at our job sites, in our relationships, friendships, family etc is what easily kills this communities God created to be a blessing to us.
So coming back to my school and serving situation, as a young teen, God told me:
- Your identity is not in this things you do, it is in who i am (God)
- Your Family, school are your immediate forms of service to me, they are your first prioritires when it comes to the people and places i have called you to love and serve well.
- Whether your there or not, my work will still be done, and it is an opportuinity for someone else to grow and step up to serve where needed.
I'll live it at 3 for now because as i grew into adulthood, God kept adding more to this list and it has changed over time because oh 14 year old me learned this basics at the best time.
So speaking of pride i decided to use this basic example because we live in the day and age of so many looking like they are living for God, but are they really? our christian environments may have or may not have done a bad job with teaching us how to love and serve others how God really wants, which has resulted to so many either leaving the church, having bad relationships with their family, friends and overall basing their value and worth on how needed they are or on what they can do, now that's just sad. Just like lucifer we can all be up today and down tomorrow, so if anything you've read so far has been something you've ever worried about, am here to tell you to REST.
Just like me at 14years old, i decided to take a step back from doing so many things in the church so i could concentrate on my school work and actually make good grades, yes God will help you with your endevours miraculously but sweetheart you have to study, you have to make efforts in areas of your life you wish to see flourish and you know what made this easy, i rested in God, i asked him in prayer and fellowship for wisdom on what to do, what prioritires to make, now don't read what am not saying my friend,
Serving in God's house should always be our number one life priority, living a life that is a testament of Jesus should be our goal but don't confuse this with you mis-managing your time, slacking off at school or spending time with your kids, family, friends and yourself, we rest in Jesus because we know who we are in him, he loves us regardless of what and who we are. Yes serve, do everything you can for God but don't be oblivious to seasons and times, there is a season to do certain things and other seasons to take a little break or pull back, during my exams i had to take a break and pull back, i don't know what season you might be in dear friend , but i really encourage you to pray and ask God for wisdom on how to not get tired of doing his work, because when you keep neglecting some other areas of your life covering it up with God things, there won't be a balance in your life.
Dear friend, the christian life is for living and enjoying, it is beautiful when done right, don't exhaust yourself trying to proof a point to God, he loves you regardless of what you do for him, just do what he leads you to and trust me your life will be beautiful, take it from 25 year old me, living her best life in Christ, applying daily the things the holyspirit has taught me.
God bless you friend,
Remember to be happy,
let's talk again soon.
Your friend,
Courage.
